Bumbling Bees….

Bumble Bee...

Hello
to you all ,
I’m the Bumble Bee,
Bombus terrestris
the Latin name for me
I work hard ‘til I die,
no retirement plan set,
I collect for the honey
and no thanks do I get
 Bee collecting pollen
Let me take you back to a warm summers day,
you’re lying in the garden whiling the time away
just worshiping the sun, until suddenly you hear
a slight buzzing, a Bumble Bee working quite near.
He has no time to sit around or be lazy
he works collecting pollen in the sunshine hazy
with food for his young and his queen who await
plus he pollinates the flowers that we anticipate.

Bee collecting pollen
Without his help
the plants they would die,
with no cross fertilisation
it would then apply
that future generations
would never ever see
the swathes of beautiful flowers
that bloom so wild and free..

  1. I do appreciate the honey bee. I love honey in my tea. Having been stung a time or two by a bumble bee I don't appreciate him quite as much.
    Good job Pen!
    Hugs for you and Bess!

  3. I love to see any sort of bees busy working on the plants, they are quite hard to get photos of though as they just won't stay still long enough haha!

  4. So beautiful this poem has indeed made my day, here it's sunny but very cold outside. I have spotted one or two Bees the bumble flitting around today, although there are few flowers for them at the moment. Without these litle creatures we would be no more... Thank you Pen that was really lovely Hugs Wile-e and Sheila. Have a lovely day Bess and yourself. xx

  5. Oh you did it then, I've been waiting for it, I have bumble bees nests in the garden, they have a hole in the ground under the bird table and last summer they were coming and going all day.
I enjoy honey on my cereal with cinnamon., but \i don't poke around the one in the ground, I don't think they make the same sort of honey anyhow.
Lovely post Pen, brings back memories of warm lazy summer days. memories right now. Tell Bess to be careful around them pats and hugs to her from T&R XX

  6. Lovely Pen, we would so miss these little magicians if they disappeared from our countryside. I mean, what would I put on my toast every morning?
