My Girl….

Bess, Painting by Arlene

My heartfelt thanks to all who have been asking about My Girl, I have the saddest of news to report, in that we had to take her to the PDSA yesterday, as an emergency it being a Bank Holiday, and they checked her over and found her kidneys had almost failed completely.  It was time to say goodbye to my beautiful, brave girl and we did, my ex and I, with tears and heavy hearts as they gave her the final injection.  We brought her body back to her garden and she is now buried behind the Yew tree where she loved to sniff and play.

We are in total shock and disbelief but we knew the time had come to let her go, as there was no doubt she was in pain and there was no way back. For the past week we had been trying to help her regain her appetite, feeding her everything tasty we could think of, but to no avail. Tears have been shed by the bucket load and are not far away every minute I think of her, and I want to thank Arlene especially for the wonderful painting she did of My Bess which I have been staring at and remembering Bess as she was, bright as a button and forever playful.

  1. Dear Pen.

My cheeks are wet with tears for you. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Bess. You both have been in my prayers each day and it breaks my heart that it had to end this way. I do believe that you will meet again someday.

    Love,
    Beth

  2. I am so sorry to see this. We had to make the same awful decision with our Sam the day after Thanksgiving. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do and I have had to do some pretty terrible things in my day. We adopted Buddy from the county shelter and I know it's what Sam would have wanted because he could never stand to see us in pain. Even so, I still feel Sam's presence and choke up every time I think of him, my buddy.

  4. I am so saddened by the news of losing your beloved friend. I have my 2 cats now so I don't think of it too often but at times I'll think about ALL of my amazing pets I've had in the past. Not always but at times a few tears still fall from my eyes when I think of the 'times' we had together. Even though their deaths hurt me like a dagger in the heart (each and every time) at least I can look back with great fondness and love at these wonderous animals that enriched my life. She sounded like the best dog ever and I'm sorry for your loss. She will always be there with you in your heart so you see she really hasn't left you, she is just in a different place and will always love her mama. Take it easy honey I'm thinking of you. ♥

  7. No time on earth is long enough to share with our beloved fou-legged family members or to prepare our hearts for good-bye. Sending a gentle hug your way. I’m so sorry for the loss of your sweet little baby. My thoughts are with you. Bess may be gone from your sight, but never your memories.

  8. I am so sad for you Penny. Pets become part of the family and it's so upsetting when they die. At least she will be happy under her favourite tree.
